How to Reduce Your Carbon Footprint at Home

  1.  Advocate clean alternatives to fossil fuels - wind, solar, biomass energy (manure, organic waste..) 

  2. Calculate your carbon footprint.

  3. Change to a plant-based diet. Stop eating meat, fish and dairy product.

  4. Factory farms for animals, birds and fish inflict untold suffering on creatures.

  5. Cut air travel on use of car or rely on public transport. Only fly when necessary. 

  6. Cut down on use of water indoors, car washing, garden watering,  showers and taps.

  7. Do not use standby overnight. Do not charge phone, laptops overnight.

  8. Eat locally-produced and organic food. 

  9. Give donations to the support planting of forests.

  10. Reduce carbon footprint through reduction of transportation of food, goods by sea, air and land.

  11. Install solar panels. 

  12. Insulate and seal your home.

  13. Minimise use of electrical appliances.

  14. Name areas for improvement to reduce carbon footprint.

  15. Offset your carbon footprint, such as donation to plant tress, 

  16. Recycle items. Use free-bay, e-bay etc. Make things last.

  17. Set thermostat to maximum of 20 degrees on winter nights.

  18. Wear warm clothes indoors rather high thermostat.

  19. Avoid use of air-conditioning.

  20. Support campaigns to reduce carbon footprints.

  21. Support clean energy sources and use renewable energy.

  22. Turn off lights in rooms not in use. Close doors not in use.

  23. Use an online Carbon Footprint Calculator for seeomg energy emissions at home, travel and flying.

  24. Use compact fluorescent or LED lightbulbs

  25. Use energy efficient refrigerator and clothes washer etc – set to low levels of use.
